Considering Clutch Baseball Florida is compromised of a group of hard nosed gritty small town guys that all reside within 30 miles of each other the results from this past weeks games in Greenville, SC were pretty good. According to Head Coach Brian Annett the team "dug in and played well in the travel ball environment where all the teams that we faced pulled talent from New York to Florida. Our purpose for going to these events is a little different than the bulk of teams who attend. Of-course we want to win, but our goals are larger than a one weekend trophy". The trips are to help transition young men of Madison and surrounding counties from childhood to adulthood using the game of baseball as the catalyst. "While on the road our guys are not just playing great baseball but they are making adult decisions and demonstrating an ability to adhere to a daily schedule that includes team meetings, practice times, laundry duty, devotionals, and game preparations. Annett stresses its not a vacation, its "on the job training for life".
The team wrapped up its stay in Greenville with a loss to a New York/New Jersey based team that came with New York/New Jersey mouths. "Another great lesson for our guys, we had an opposing coach come onto the field and tell his pitcher to start hitting our batters, pretty intense few minutes during that game. Great lesson on how to keep our emotions in check (coach included) when we face adversity like that" Clutch Baseball wound up 2-2 in the tournament and did not make the championship bracket. "We didn't achieve our baseball goals this trip, but we are working towards another state championship run in the Spring with Madison County High School, so our weekly records really don't matter as long as we are getting our guys smarter and more competitive for the spring. We take each game and identify a few things that we can go home and get better at, and when we play in these showcase tourneys we know we are going to be the underdog, but that is the approach I want our guys to have. I want them always to compete with something that is bigger than they are and achieve more than they ever thought possible".
Clutch Baseball Florida will play a rare home game this Wednesday starting at 3:00 PM at Cowboy Field in Madison, Fl. It will be a double header against a Tallahassee AAU team. If you are in town come out and see our guys in their red white and blue.
